Nancy Schulte, 2D Artist

Nancy has always enjoyed art and won awards even as a young person. She has studied with many nationally known artists including, Katherine Chang Lei, Irwin Greenberg, Bill Condit, Alex Powers, Skip Lawrence, Gerald Broomer, Poly Hammett, Charles Reed and Judi Betts. Each workshop helps Nancy learn to use different mediums in combination or alone to strengthen her designs.

Nancy has been teaching painting since 1992. “My students have contributed to my growth and enthusiasm.” She developed an art program at Camp Sunshine- a camp for kids with Cancer. She has taught residents at nursing homes as well as students who want to continue to sing their own song and tell their stories.

She is the past President of Georgia Watercolor Society.  She has signature memberships for Georgia, Southern Watercolor Society, and Watercolor Society of North Carolina. She illustrated Tidal Tastings, which is a cookbook with proceeds going to CIS. More than 67,000 copies have been sold. She is active with Associated Artists of Southport and the Artisans. Her work is in both of these galleries in Southport, North Carolina. She has sold many pieces to private people including Neil Diamond.

Flowers, still life, landscapes, dogs and architectural studies are included in Nancy’s repertoire. However her favorite subject matter is people. ‘Being a RN, wife for 58 years, mother of 4, grandmother of 6 have given me many valuable experiences and deep appreciation for life itself. It is imperative for me to record everyday happenings in a sensitive manner. I want to evoke emotion. I’m deeply blessed and grateful to share my talent with others.”

I mainly work in watercolor and all these pieces are on different papers or finished in various ways. I want the viewers to appreciate the difficulty but also the variety watercolors can offer.

Nancy and her husband Michael have a fifty year anniversary coming up. They are originally from Kenosha, Wisconsin which was previously named Southport. They have lived in St James since 2004. They have three wonderful children, two supportive sons-in-law, and six grandkids.
