Marian MacKerer, 2D Artist
I am a contemporary still life painter who has been working in oil
for the past eighteen years. After a retail management career and raising two children, I started painting in 2005 taking an informal acrylic class which led to completing an AFA in Studio Art from Montgomery College, Rockville, MD in 2008.
I have always been creative; learning new crafts, tole painting, making custom draperies, clothing and quilts. Painting on a canvas sparked a new passion. I love the feel of the brush, the smell of the paints, how the image comes to life and the joy of putting the last stroke on a canvas.
I tell a story through my compositions using everyday objects. In a sales job I once held, I enjoyed arranging window displays, and I still arrange displays in setting up a composition to paint. I stage the compositions from my glass bottle collections, flowers from the garden, fruit or books that are lying around. I have always been attracted to still life paintings. I’m inspired by the 17th century Dutch artists with their delicately arranged settings, limited palette, and their technical skill of capturing texture and light.
As a still life artist, I strive to capture three dimensional qualities on a flat canvas, emphasizing light and shadows to capture a realistic still life. I ask the viewer to take a second look and appreciate the beauty in everyday household objects. I have succeeded if I gave the viewer a feeling of warmth and familiarity seeing the object in a new way. My work uses a bolder palette and a perspective of looking down on the table giving a more contemporary feel.
I reside in St. James, North Carolina and am a member of The Artisans of St. James, Associated Artists of Southport, Oak Island Art Guild, Wilmington Art Association, and Oil Painters of America. I have won awards in juried shows and exhibit locally at The Artisans Gallery on Howe and the Franklin Gallery.

Bev Haley, 3D Artist
Bev graduated with a BFA in studio art from the University of Iowa with an emphasis in drawing and painting. It wasn’t until several years later that she attended a clay workshop at an area art gallery and there was an immediate connection.
Since then she has had the opportunity to study with some extremely talented mid-west and east coast potters who have helped define her style and enhance her skills. Creating wheel throw, altered and traditional pottery as well as hand built sculptures, her style reflects nature from the forest to the sea.
Bev has taught children and adult pottery classes and workshops at art gallery and college level programs, and is currently working as an instructor at Orange Street Pottery.
Her work can be seen at Franklin Square Gallery, Southport and Cameron Art Museum Gift Shop, Wilmington NC. Her website is http://www.clayandcamera.com
